Welcome to the first video of my Music Evaluation series where I listen, analyze (break down), respond, and connect with all kinds of music and show you the process of how I evaluate music.

For this first video, I will be evaluating and reacting to Dr. Dre’s “Still Dre” featuring Snoop Dogg. We will look at musical elements, intention, and connect to the music with the text in ways that you may or may not have considered when listening to hip-hop/rap.

The purpose of these videos is to show you how I evaluate music while adhering to the National Standards of Music Literacy (creating, performing, and responding). This is also a how-to guide in hopes that you would be able to approach music with the same integrity, regardless of its form. By breaking it down and finding relationships of sound and intention, I hope to help you find a deeper connection to the music you listen to on a daily basis.

LARC – Listen, Analyze, Respond, and Connect

Each step allows one to properly find value and intention in every music (whether it is for a purpose, a study, an emotion, etc.). We tend to listen and perform music we enjoy which is great; allow yourself to further explore these seemingly different ideas by bridging the gap of what you know with what is presented.
